Be prepared to be ‘up with larks’ for our bird watching trip! Our early start means that we will be on the river as the sun starts to come up, this is a spectacular scene that never fails to amaze. As the sky turns from deep purple to orange and soft pink the birds will begin to rouse, swirling above our heads. This is an enchanting time of the day. It feels otherworldly, like you are seeing a secret side to Dalyan.
Turkey stands at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. It is the direct migration for hundreds of species of birds meaning that there is always something special to see. Due to it’s geography and ecosystems Turkey has an abundance of flora and fauna.
We will meet at the office at 05.00 and take a short walk to our boat. Fresh tea and coffee will be waiting on board for you.
As our boat makes its way through the river to the reed beds, you will see egrets and cormorants just waking up to the new day. There is a large tree that hundreds of cormorants roost on. As we drift past they take off, often landing on the water right in front of the boat. In the reed beds there are warblers, kingfishers, buntings and many more. The captain will switch off the engine and we will sit in the silence listening to the rustling in the undergrowth. In May, migrant birds such as Nightingales and warblers fill the air with birdsong. If we are lucky we will see Marsh harriers, Peregrine Falcons and even Golden eagles. Even if you have no idea what you are looking for this is a magical trip.
Make sure that you bring your camera and binoculars, if you have them. You will be able to sit on the front of the boat or on the roof to ensure the best views of the sunrise and the birds.
We will have tea, coffee and water and pastries on the boat before winding our way back to Dalyan. We will arrive at the harbour at 9.00 in time for you to have breakfast and enjoy the rest of your day.
