Due to popular demand, Volkan’s Adventures is proud to launch our exclusive, limited edition, first ever overnight ultimate adventure! Incorporating history, culture, the revolutionary Lisinia Project, the fascinating wonders of Sagalassos and the magnificent Salda Lake to name just a few, this two day tour will give you experiences to last a lifetime

Departing on the final tuesday of each month, our journey begins as we pick you up from your accommodation between 08.30am and 09.00am. Relax in our comfortable air conditioned minibus as we travel for an hour to reach our first destination, a beautiful authentic family run business offering a grand Turkish breakfast. Feast on home grown fruits and vegetables, honey from their very own bee hives, freshly produced cheeses, butters and yoghurts as well as freshly baked breads and more. Once we are fully satisfied we will continue onwards towards our next stop, the ancient city of Kibyra. View the Akdag mountains to the west and the beautiful stream of Dalaman to your East as we approach this magnificent site. Take your time as you enter through the Monumental Arch of the city to explore and marvel at the ruins. With roots traced back as far as the Hellenistic period, this city displays proud remains of temples, museums, fountains, roman villas, the longest and grandest stadium in Anatolia and much more. The Kibyrian society was best known for its success in iron and leather manufacturing and horse breeding; many artefacts are available for view to really allow yourself to go back in time and picture yourself in the world before ours.

Our next stop as we continue our enthralling journey will be for lunch at the magnificent city of Burdur – sit and enjoy the hustle and bustle of this wonderful place, famous for its Burdur Shish Kebabs and locally farmed trout.

Onwards we travel following lunch to Burdur Museum, home to over 50,000 artefacts dating all the way back to at least 7,000 BC, which is even before the times of ancient Greece. Established in 1969 the museum has three main areas to navigate – the open exhibition in the garden area, the statue hall and the small monuments hall. Take yourself on a journey of historical discovery – ranked number 1 of all things to do in Burdur by Trip Advisor this museum is an absolute jewel in the crown of this adventure.

A short 40 minutes drive once we depart Burdur Museum will result in our arrival at the UNESCO world heritage site of Sagalassos. Founded on the south facing slopes of the Taurus mountains, this ancient city only maintained an occupied population until approximately the 13th century due to natural disasters and economic decline, however as it was rapidly covered by vegetation and layers of erosion, it has remained as one of the most well preserved ancient cities in the whole of the Mediterranean.

As evening draws in we will make our way the short distance to the Sagalassos Lodge and Spa where we will rest and unwind ready for the adventures to come tomorrow. Enjoy a sumptuous evening meal in the restaurant set amongst a 10 acre pine forest high up in the Taurus mountains where the views of sunset before you will take your breath away. A panoramic bar, indoor and outdoor swimming pools as well as Turkish bath and massage facilities will all work towards providing you with memories you will never forget.

Once fully relaxed and reenergised, our second day will begin following a leisurely breakfast as we travel towards the inspirational Lisinia Project. This organisation acts not only as a wild animal rehabilitation and end of life care facility, it is also a champion of producing cancer fighting organic products, tirelessly striving to promote healthy living for the benefit of self and the environment,

Supporting volunteers from over 100 different countries around the world, and educating the next generation in the importance of economical and global preservation awareness. As you spend time at this facility you will observe jackals, wolves, wild boars, and eagles in restorative care and you will have the opportunity to see the creation of all natural, likopen rich oils, body creams and many more before your eyes. Made from the projects home grown lavender, rose and sage trees, learn all about their healing properties and health benefits from the volunteers just waiting to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with you.

After the Lisinia Project we will take the short journey to marvel at the world’s biggest lavender field, which is responsible for the restoration and continued thriving of Burdur Lake. Set on 400 hectares of land, the field is planted so the lavender bushes are in perfectly symmetrical lines whichever way you may look at them, a photographic opportunity absolutely not to be missed.

Next we stop for a light lunch at a well-known fish restaurant close by to the Lisinia project, giving us a wonderful opportunity to reflect and digest all we have seen and enjoyed so far. There will be alternatives to fish available if you would prefer something different, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

Finally, following our lunch, we will head towards the magnificent, one of a kind, Salda Lake with its crystal clear waters and lifeforms within that are descendent from Mars. In 2008, the NASA Spirit rover captured images of unusual, cauliflower-shaped silica formations inside Mars’s Gusev Crater that bear an uncanny resemblance to objects sculpted by bacteria living inside hot springs on Earth. Salda Lake is one of only two places in the world that these formations can found.

Salda Lake not only has the cleanest water in Turkey but the 5th cleanest in the world. It is also the deepest in Turkey and 2nd deepest in the world, with water temperatures never falling below 17 degrees. Another of the unique attributes of the beach surrounding this lake is the variation of sands that can be found leading down to the water. They range from natural mud closest to the road side through to perfect white sands nearest to the lake. Because of this, Salda Lake has been referred to as the ‘Maldives of Turkey’ but we don’t think even that does this spectacular area the level of justice it deserves. The beauty really must be seen to be believed.

As we relax on this stunning beach we will be in the perfect place to enjoy one of the world’s most astonishing sunsets whilst we take our evening meal. As the day turns to night we will begin our journey back to Dalyan with the aim or arrival at approximately 11.00pm.

NB. Please note arrival time to Dalyan will differ according to the seasonal sunset timings.

Just back from a fantastic trip with Volkan’s Adventures – overnight trip to Sagalassos and a brilliant spa hotel in the mountains. Visits to two Roman towns that I’d previously not heard of – recently discovered Kibyra, and Sagalassos itself which is definitely a rival to Ephesus. Then Burdur museum, the Lisinia project with the biggest lavender fields in the world, ecological planting and product making, rescued animals and woven animal sculptures and finally on to Lake Salda with its gorgeous white sands – we saw at least 3 weddings being photographed there, along with another 2 in the lavender fields!
Add to this the most amazing meals – especially breakfast on the first day – and it’s a trip that has to be done. Book it now!!! Thanks again Volkan Hacigumus for a wonderful trip to help celebrate our wedding anniversary xxx
