This tour takes in some beautiful locations across the river that are a little less known to even frequent visitors to Dalyan. Even if you have been to places we will visit, it will probably be a different experience with us, we have some great friends who are waiting with open arms, to give a warm welcome and feed us. We will have many different stops to give you plenty of time to immerse yourself with amazing scenery that surrounds you and you will have many photo opportunities that will reveal yet more secrets of the local area.
The day is all about having a fun relaxing lazy day with beautiful locally sourced food. We start pick up between 08.30 – 09.00 am from your accommodation. We will then head to the ferry crossing opposite Caunos After crossing the river, we will take the short drive to our first stop at Çandır Terrace. This is a charming little family run café on a hill with amazing views, the view over the delta is wonderful but so too is the hospitality of the family. Here you will have a hearty traditional Turkish breakfast, all freshly prepared from local ingredients, and washed down with freshly squeezed orange juice and Turkish tea.
After breakfast, we will find out a little more about Çandir when we visit Mehmet at the cultural house. Some of you may remember Volkan visiting on one of his virtual live tours last year. The cultural house is a nomad museum and you will be able to wander around looking at the interesting artefacts, and whilst having a soft complimentary drink Mehmet will tell us about the history of Caunos and the nomads. We will then hop back on the bus to take a 5-minute drive to the old Candir port where the locals moor their fishing boats. The port sits on the edge of Sülüklü Lake, which was once the port of ancient Caunos, and the lifeblood of its economy. Today, it is altogether cut-off from the sea due to the silt and clumps of reed that have covered its entry. From here, you can see some of the old tombs, and there is a purpose built viewing platform where you can take in the magnificent views.
After a short stop here, we will head to Ekincik beach, along the way there will be opportunities to stop for those all-important photos. Ekincik is a beautiful bay popular with campers and here we will have a base at the Ekincik camping ground, which is right on the beach. We will stay here for approx. 3 hours giving you plenty of time to walk the beach, swim, sunbathe, explore or go trekking and have lunch at your leisure. Anytime you want lunch you can choose from the plentiful menu.
We will leave here at approx 6pm and take the scenic journey through the woodland and forests towards Jimmy`s Island where there will be more opportunities to get those selfies. We will arrive at Jimmy`s Island early evening when it’s at its best and always the perfect atmosphere. Here you will have the opportunity to explore, swim, and even have a go at stand up paddle board or if that all sounds like hard work, you can just sit chat and have a few leisurely drinks watching the sunset. Whilst you are enjoying your free time, our magnificent lady chef will be preparing you a lovely dinner. The food will be homemade and cooked fresh for you. The dinner will be cooked in a traditional way just like in a Turkish home, and served in large clay pots. You can take as much as you want, and you will feel as if you are at Turkish family gathering. You will be able to choose from meat, seafood and veggie options so something for everyone.
After sunset and once everyone has enjoyed their dinner and with your bellys’s full, around 8.30-9.00pm, we will head back to Dalyan and take the Sultaniye ferry back over the river arriving back at your accommodation around 9.30-10.00pm depending on the season. A relaxing lazy day where you will sample amazing local food, create beautiful memories and make new friends.
