This is a brand new tour for 2023, this tour is designed to give you a flavour of a town that is full of History, Nature, Amazing views and traditional Markets & Shops. Equally it will reveal some of the Highlights of Fethiye including the abandoned village , modern engineering and breath-taking views from Dalyan to Fethiye.
Firstly we will pick you up from your accommodation between 9.00-9.30am then we will begin our 60 minute journey from Dalyan to Fethiye. Along the way we will share some interesting facts and show you some amazing views.
Tomb of Amyntas
Our first stop from Dalyan to Fethiye will be at the Tombs of Amyntas, they are very similar to the ones found in Dalyan but you can get much closer to these ancient architectural examples. These are an Ancient Greek tomb and are in the old part of the city previously known as Telmessos. There is a small incline to reach the tombs, but for those that prefer they can take a seat at the bottom and take photos from here.
Kayakoy
After a short stop here, we jump back on the bus for the short journey to Kayakoy. This is known locally as “Ghost Town” because it resembles a ghost village with all its abandoned stone houses and churches. Unfortunately, it was abandoned entirely in 1923 due to the population exchange between Greece and Turkey. Today Kayakoy is one of the most beautiful ghost towns you will find anywhere. The ghost village is spread over a hill so involves a little bit of walking but if you don’t fancy that , you can just have a stroll round the actual village of Kayakoy. Maybe looking at the little stalls, chatting to locals , or having a cool drink. Whilst in Kayakoy we also have our lunch in one of the local restaurants.
Babadag Teleferik
Next ,once we have enjoyed our delicious lunch, we will make the short journey to our next stop the Babadag Teleferik ( otherwise known as the cable car) . This is a modern feat of engineering and was only completed in 2020 opening up the views from the top to everyone. Moreover you will literally feel like you are on top of the World. Once you step out of the cable car at 1700m you will instantly encounter the most incredible view of the famous blue lagoon and surrounding area. Its literally breath-taking and perfect for those selfies or budding photographers. At the top there is a beautiful restaurant where you will be able to grab a drink and watch the adrenalin junkies otherwise known as paragliders taking off from the summit of Babadag. Alternatively just wander around taking in the different views. After 45mins we take the 20 min journey back to the bottom and once back on the bus we head to the bustling town of Fethiye.
Fethiye
On arrival D Fethiye we will give you free time of approx. 2 hours. Then you may wish to walk along the yacht lined promenade , or maybe visit the old town (paspatur). Its full of narrow quirky little streets, shops and bars, or maybe you just want to grab a cool drink and watch the world go by. Alternatively, you can take a 10 minute stroll and head in to one of the largest markets in Mugla. Under traditional tent style covers, you can take in the sights, sounds and smells. Maybe practise your bartering skills with the local stall holders and grab yourself a bargain. You can literally buy everything from Olives to handbags , a shopper’s paradise.
Dinner
Lastly, once we have enjoyed the delights from Dalyan to Fethiye we will hop on the bus take a short 15 min journey to Calis Beach. This is Fethiye`s main beach resort with a 5km long sandy beach and a beautiful palm lined promenade, dotted with bars and restaurants. We will have dinner here right on the promenade whilst watching one of the amazing sunsets that Calis is famous for, you may also fancy an early evening dip in the sea whilst waiting for your meal.
Finally, after a wonderful day, we will take the 50 minute journey back to Dalyan , arriving back in resort between 9.00 and 9.30pm.
Tour Reviews
We recently took this tour with the lovely Kubra as our guide. It is a very long day, but taken at such a relaxed pace that it never felt tiring. Our visit coincided with market day in Fethiye, so our day began with free time at the market, after that we visited the old town where there was time to drink tea and chat with the group. We explored the old town, had an ice cream stop and then went off to look at the fish market. Next were the tombs of Amyntas, followed by lunch at Kayokoy and a walk through the ‘ghost’ town, which is truly fascinating, but quite steep. Next was the highlight of the trip for us – the cable car ride to 1700 metres. The views are breath taking and it was worth the trip just to watch the paragliders taking off. Our day finished with an excellent dinner and sunset at Calis beach. It is a varied itinerary and made for a great day. We would happily do the same trip again! With lunch and dinner included in the price we thought it was good value. A special shout out to Kubra – it was her very first time doing this trip and she did an amazing job. She has a great personality and made an excellent guide.
